Small cars are notorious for poor safety ratings, but new research finds that smaller cars are becoming safer than ever.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluated 13 small cars for safety. Of them, six earned top safety awards. Additionally, none of the vehicles earned a "poor" rating.
The IIHS evaluates vehicles in four areas: front, rear, side, and rollover impact.
Top-rated vehicles include the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Prius.
